For whatever reason, Watts had not noticed the luggage when he'd first woken up. Otherwise he likely never would have left the house at all, let's be real. But he did leave the house, and it wasn't until he was nearly at the Perk that 'IDENTITY' and 'DIFFICULT' made their appearances in the shape of suitcases. Seeing as he was basically at the shop door, he (perhaps stupidly) elected to press on, doing his best to steadfastly ignore the 'ABANDONMENT ISSUES' trunk that was quickly followed by a wheeled suitcase labeled 'CLARISSA' that made a break for the door as soon as it landed.

Yes, even Raiden had a couple of bags following him around today, although they were relatively small and he was mostly ignoring them. (One said DUMB and another said CURSED and, well, he was both of those things. What of it?) He had more important things to worry about.

When the students entered the home ec classroom, they would find their teacher on the phone. "I don't care about interior design, I just want to open as soon as--you care about interior design." Of course Castor cared about interior design. "Hey, listen, do you have a bunch of bags following you around today? No, no reason--look, I gotta go, class is starting. I'll call you back."

He hung up and smiled at his students. "Sorry about that! Just dealing with some business stuff. This week we're going to talk about breakfast meat! Because man cannot protein by eggs alone, or something like that. Of course, some people are vegetarians and we don't judge them for that, and they have to get their protein from...beans and stuff. But I don't think we have any vegetarians in this class?" he double checked, before going on with, "If you do I have some vegan breakfast sausage, but it's..." Look, it was up to you.

"Obviously you can eat any kind of meat for breakfast and no one's gonna stop you, but some are more common than others. The most common breakfast meat in the US is probably pork, in the form of sausage and bacon," Raiden told his students. "Turkey, say, is not common at breakfast except in the form of 'healthier' alternatives to pork sausage and pork bacon, and you only see chicken--well, again in sausages, chicken apple sausage is really good, but also in the South in the form of fried chicken breast served on a biscuit or a waffle. Beef makes a show in dishes like corned beef hash or steak and eggs, and for seafood, you can put smoked salmon on a bagel up in New York, or go back to the South for shrimp or fried catfish served with grits." The South was killing it in the food game once again.

He gestured to a table full of food behind him, featuring the various breakfast dishes he'd just named and a few more besides, all separated out by type of meat (or "meat" in the case of the vegetarian alternatives) and carefully labeled. "I need your help with a project of mine. I want y'all to try this stuff, and tell me what you think. What's your favorite? What are you not into? What's missing?" Yes, he was using you for menu market research, but he was also feeding you.

With the bags, there was not enough space behind the bar.

Thor kicked one labeled DADDY ISSUES aside in order to reach the chalkboard to write the specials, then simply...stared at it for a moment.

Nothing was coming to mind. Out of the corner of his eye he could see an enormous steamer trunk with ASGARD splashed across it, the names of the fallen printed in smaller font all around it, Fandral and Hogun and Tyr and Sif and Volstagg.

Loki.

He expected that somewhere among the mess his brother had his own bag, but he had not looked for it.

Finally, Thor wrote something on the specials board and turned back to the bar.

ALE

It was a perfectly cromulent special, okay? The Devil's Nest is open.

No. Notes. Now.

Up at the School, Arden napped in the Library while Cal tried not to wake her. Which could have been cute or creepy.

Anakin inflicted rubber chicken tag upon Shenanagins, again. The minglers mingled, while amongst the voluntolds, Kitty felt personally attacked, even though she got picked to hit people with pool noodles, Vi explained her case of deja vu to Flint before flirting with Steph, giving me deja vu, Isabela explained how it was a sex thing to Sam, as you do, while Ignis and Flint considered their lost dignity. And then everyone ran around with rubber chickens on their feet trying to avoid getting smacked with pool noodles. As you do.

AS usual, nothing happened in the Dorms, while in Town, Adrian dealt with an aggressive phone caller at Pick Your Poison while Pamela suggested violence as the solution. Over at Caritas, there were all the limes. All of them, Stark was impressed by tiny pies, while Atton judged the limes, which I guess clears up the zombie clone question.

Belle had some bags with her today. A trunk labeled "Mama" and a somehow aggressively masculine bag labeled "technically still betrothed ugh" and assorted smaller items that she was doing her best to keep organized and out of anyone's way.

The usual gremlins had a few bags of their own, apparently. Belle would have simply nodded and moved on but some of them had decided to play catch with smaller items and that was disruptive. And odd.

She sighed and put her feet up on the trunk, pushing the bag with "Avoiding Home" aside as she did so.

"Good afternoon," Hannibal said, nodding to the class. "Today we continue our discussion of what is and isn't food, and how our preferences are formed."

He waved toward the table behind him, which held pairs of dishes this time. "We've got an assortment of foods and beverages today, organized into pairs. You may choose only one from each pair - you cannot have both. You may choose neither, if you prefer. But in any case, you must explain your choice. Why do you prefer the option you've chosen - taste? Nostalgia? Curiosity? Feel free to debate with each other as well, and ask each other or me questions. Remember, there are no wrong answers - it's reasoning and thought we're looking for."

There was a pile of luggage in the office that Steph was very steadfastly ignoring in favor of getting all of the Pride decorations out of the stockroom.

The problem with this was that a new bag labeled AVOIDANCE WHEEEEE appeared on the pile every few minutes, but again Steph was (deliberately keeping herself) too preoccupied to notice.

Saffron, meanwhile, continued to ignore her from atop her own small pile of baggage. What it said was anyone's guess, what with cats not having a written language and all.

Sam had awoken to find a very classy leather briefcase embossed with ‘Emotions Are For Weirdos.’ He accepted this from the island as a gift that he was due, obviously.

And now he was in front of Portalocity once again waiting for his students to arrive. He just happened to have a very snazzy briefcase with him.

“Good morning, students! Today we shall be visiting New River Gorge National Park and Preserve in West Virginia!”

“This park is the newest in our National Park System, having been redesignated in 2020! It exists to protect the New River Gorge.”

“While we were there you may participate in such activities as whitewater rafting! I recommend you not bring all your luggage with you on a raft! Or on a hike. Or on any of the tours. In fact I recommend none of you bring luggage at all. This is a field trip! There is no need for this excess!” Sam shook his head disapprovingly. He did most things disapprovingly.

“There are also guided tours and you may visit the visitor's centers! You may go on hikes! You may do anything appropriate to a National Park setting! I recommend visiting Thurmond for history, railroad history!”

“Do not,” Sam said, eyeing everyone fiercely, “miss the return portal! I will not come back for you!”

Oh good, it was Sabine's favorite day.

Usually she spent this day paintings over the baggage as symbolic catharsis or something, but apparently this hadn't happened since she'd been back because now there was simply too much. When you had survivor's guilt over an entire planet it resulted in a lot of little bags that were dropping steadily throughout the day, and she was just hauling them into the meditation room. Maybe she'd take some back to the range to shoot some a little. Also symbolic catharsis.

If you were looking for help for clothing, accessories, and whatever else was sold here at Pixie Dust, you'd have to get it from a wolf. Well, the wolf might turn back into her human form if you were nice or she liked you enough, but for the most part, Luma was less interested in working today and more interested in finally getting around to attacking those bags that had been following her around all morning and tearing them to shreds.

They'd only come back, fully formed and untorn, moments after they'd been ripped apart, sure, but that just meant it was an endless supply of things to sink her teeth and claws into without even harming anyone. And if Eleanor was right about them disappearing probably by tomorrow, then there wouldn't even be a mess for Boc to clean up later. Really, this was the perfect solution.

Any of the bags, however, marked with someone's name, were left untouched.

Except the one marked GRANDMERE. That one she would delight in destroying over and over and over, until she'd finally exhausted herself enough to hop up on the counter, curl up, and maybe take a nap if the store remained quiet.

Pixie Dust is open!

Liliana had reached out and informed the class that they would be meeting in the Danger Shop today several days before the island had decided to be cute. So, the giant steamer trunk that simply said THE MENDING (in all the alphabets that she could read, including Braille for maximum rudeness!) that had nearly blocked her in the room this morning hadn't only inconvenienced her--as well as proving her her previous decision both right and prescient. Had she thought that being in the Danger Shop would stop the luggage from appearing, however....well, that she was sad to discover was not to be.

Might Get More Bags After This Class... )

"But, what is easy to decide in a solarium, surrounded by your peers and focusing only on a single child's misery, may become much harder when you are face to face with the people who will actually pay the price for your actions." She waved around the park, then pointed to various buildings. A hospital. A university. A day care. A market. "Welcome to Omelas, darlings. Today's ethical decision: decide whether or not you will be the personal architect of the city's downfall. Best of luck."

At first Liz had not noticed that there was anything unusual happening that day until she got downstairs for work and a massive trunk labelled ‘FIRE’ was waiting for her. It took her a few minutes to realise then what was happening and sighed as she sat down to work, knowing that it was going to be one of those days as she tried to focus on just working and not on the steadily increasing piles of baggage that kept dropping through the morning.

Steven hadn't noticed anything out of the ordinary on his way into work that morning. Perhaps because he'd been so focused on getting there.

It wasn't until he arrived that he tripped over a suitcase in the front doorway. He bit back a curse as he glared at it.

There on the suitcase was the word: Lesser.

That didn't help Steven's desire to glare, actually. He grabbed the suitcase and hauled it behind the Welcome Desk. On his way there he spotted others: Unwanted and Uninteresting.

A memory of a few years back came to Steven. He clamped down on any feelings of Marc he could possibly put a hold on so that whatever this was didn't manifest something for him too.

"You're not getting him," Steven said aloud to... whatever this was. "You can't have him."

Behind the Welcome Desk was another suitcase.

Unreal.

Steven shoved that one under the desk as hard as he could. He then stood there, his eyes closed, and tried his best to breathe slowly and calmly.

"It's fine," he said. "Absolutely fine. I can handle this."

Behind him, near the staircase to the second floor, was a battered and worn trunk. The word on that was ANGER.

Steven didn't see the trunk. Which was fine. It wasn't his anyway.

"Here, Tino!" Summer sang out brightly as she swept into the bar that evening for her shift. "Hold these limes!"

Before he knew it, Tino was struggling to keep within his arms all the loose limes that Summer had shoved into them, and he was about to ask how he was supposed to hold all of them before she cheerfully added, "But whatever you do, don't put them in the coconuts!"

Tino, confused, waited for further information, but come on, what did Summer look like? Someone who would actually explain things to him? She went about getting her shots set up and getting the bar ready, leaving him standing there with his limes.

Eventually, he'd end up setting them down on the counter, where some of them would roll away to random places here and there, to, you know, do his job, but he stood there just holding the limes for an unprecidented amount of time, really.

Anakin was surrounded by rubber chickens and harmonicas. Completely normal Wednesday, right? There were also t-shirts, blindfolds, and two pool noodles.

Anakin picked up his megaphone. "We will be playing a modified version of tag! All but two of you will be wearing rubber chickens on your feet." As you do.

Anakin held up the rubber chicken. It squeaked menacingly. "Half of you will also have harmonicas in your mouths. Your goal is to remain silent so that the blindfolded swatters can not discover you and hit you with their pool noodle."

This seemed wholesome.

"Listen for your names and then come get your shirts!"

He smiled. "Kitty and Gladio, come retrieve your blindfolds and pool noodles. You're it."

And then he rattled off everyone else who was playing, and if they also got a harmonica in their mouths:

Raiden - harmonica
Flint
Isabelle - harmonica
Belle
Gray - harmonica
Ignis
Vi - harmonica
Sam Eagle
Prompto - harmonica

As a rule, Adrian didn't drink much. He wasn't opposed to alcohol, not even a little, but he just generally didn't. And he certainly didn't drink for any reasons beyond entertainment and socializing. Wanting a drink was all well and good, but needing one? That was where things could get really ugly really fast.

And right now, Adrian really, really needed a drink. "Look, buddy," he sighed. "I don't really know how many times I can tell you this. I'm not the boss. She - yes, she - works on Tuesdays. Good morning it’s Wednesday again and this week I will be staying far away from the park. I hope. But first I have to read the notes from the squirrels about yesterday. Not too many notes so perhaps I will be able to get back home before it becomes dangerous to be outside.

We’ll start at the school because that’s the order these things are always done in. Finding New Hobbies had me providing plants and dirt and pots so people could do some gardening. There was rowing in a longship with Thor for Norse Life. Students in The Wonderful World of Art made art that was abstract and then had to explain it. And finally there was Paintball, with buckets, and Anakin probably cheated.

I have nothing from the dorms but I do have one note from the town. Kitty was at Caritas a little late and Tino was giving her odd looks which seems unwise since she is the one who pays him.

And that’s all for today from yesterday.

Arden hadn't been sleeping well for the past few nights. Bad dreams - not nightmares, just unpleasant and uneasy dreams. They weren't the kind of dreams that made it impossible to go back to sleep once you woke up from them, but they were the kind of dreams that kept happening every time you closed your eyes.

Normally, Arden tried to be a good worker here in the library, but it was summer, and Shenanigans. Maybe nobody would notice if she curled up and took a nap under the blanket she kept for when Gray got Sloth'd...

Hey there, Fandom, it's me, ya girl Arden Finch, hoping y'all had a great Memorial Day full of picnics and grilling and neither of those things are barbeque, as a reminder. If it doesn't involve cooking on low heat for many hours, it's not barbeque. I don't make the rules, but I will die on that hill.

Anyway, things were pretty quiet on yesterday because of the holiday. School was still in session, and Teamwork had us fighting in spaceships, which, oddly enough, is a sentence I have not said before on this island. It's weird, it feels like something that should have come up before, but apparently never before, at least for me! Huh. Creative Problem Solving went from showing pictures of eggs - also a sentence I've never said before, but it would have been weirder if I had - to taking pineapple off of pizza, and y'all just don't know what's good, that's the problem here. And Art of Conversation which I definitely saw yesterday and didn't just spot, honest! talked about the art of explaining politely.

No Dorms, which I'm pretending is because of the holiday, but we did have stuff in Town! At the Stark Towerlet, Captain Rogers got ready for his day at Arlington, and then was very happy to be home again with Professor The-Rich-One Stark. Eeesh. I'd say I can imagine, but I'm pretty sure I can't and I'm even more sure I'm glad I can't. The Infinite Consortium got a shipment of poetry books, which somehow made Professor Scientia late for lunch and I'm not asking, and yesterday's Turtle and Canary holiday was World Redhead Day; hope you redheads got your discount shopping on! Professor Argentum was doing some photo editing at The Photo Hut and the Magpie Emporium maybe should have called him so he could help with the egg photo shoot that Vi was doing for class. The repetition didn't make the concept any less weird. Officer McGarrett was also setting up an egg photoshoot at the Trooper Station. Speaking of continuing weird, the Clinic was normal, but normal for it, which involves a possibly malevolent crab, so...yeah. Raiden was in a great moon at Pizza Planet, and, honestly, I think the idea of Raiden not in a great mood is something to be avoided at all costs. Lastly, both Tiny and Mr. Northman were shirtless at The Devil's Nest, and Professor Solo-Fel assured Mr. Northman that the invading mini-zillas were very boring to fight.

...

I don't know if she's just comforting Mr. Northman because he missed it, or this island is full of very weirdly jaded people. Either way, that's my last note, so this is ya girl, Arden Finch, signing off and wishing y'all a great rest of your week. Enjoy the week and this throwback hit, My Oh My by Camila Cabello, ft.
